We have helped release 11 prisoner's of conscience from all around the world over 25 years.
"For years I was held in a tiny cell. My only human contact was with my torturers...My only company were the cockroaches and mice...On Christmas Eve the door to my cell opened and the guard tossed in a crumpled piece of paper. It said, 'Take heart. The world knows you're alive. We're with you. Regards, Monica, Amnesty International.' That letter saved my life."
A released prisoner of conscience from Paraguay
Amnesty International works on behalf of prisoners and others whose rights are being violated. The mandate is based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Amnesty International works to apply a single, impartial standard of human rights throughout the world.
Group 144 was a small, but dedicated and friendly group of human rights activists. We met monthly to discuss human rights events and what actions we could take to help those in need.
We got old and didn't find a way to pass on our enthusiasm for human rights. We hope the fact that you are looking at this website means you want to have a positive impact on the world.
